churro waffles

sunday i made these for my boys and hubby.

i saw the recipe on pinterest and decided to try it.

they were delish! if you like mexican churros, this recipe will not disappoint.

hubby is a big fan of all things sweet, by default my boys are too.

now if only i could get my waffles to look more like waffles than tic-tac-toe squares.

guess i'll have to practice some more.

i am sure the boys will not have complaints.

on being creative

there is something to be said about the need to create.

 i had never really considered it until it was brought to my attention that i should take a class

for a creative outlet.

 at that time, i was {unhappily} working in a position that i had been doing for five years...

it drained the life out of me with monotonous work, no creativity whatsoever...

just lots of counting money and dealing with lots of nonsense...

not fun...i was not happy but the weirdest part was i didn't even know it.

i was drained and had no idea why.

i thank that person for pointing that out to me.

i consider myself a creative person and like to make things and work on projects.

i consider experimenting in the kitchen a creative outlet as well. 

i never had considered photography as a creative outlet until 

hubby bought me a fancy shmancy dslr camera. 

{gotta love the hubby}

i decided to take classes because i was afraid of my new camera 

and i didn't want to take it out of the box.

 i had no clue how to use it and was intimidated by it.

i never realized i would like photography this much.

i start to get antsy now if i don't use my camera after a couple of days.

i take way more pictures that often do not get published on this blog.

so now when i feel ansty, i know what i have to do,

c.r.e.a.t.e

like many of you, i have pinned lots of great projects onto my boards of things i'd like to make

the problem is when? have i actually made anything from my boards?

i am making a decision to create something..

to work on my projects and not neglect that part of me...

i get so much joy out of it, it feeds my soul.

i need to create more often.

so that is it. i am resolving to be more creative... to not wait until the conditions are perfect

until i have all the time in the world or my dishes and laundry are done.

that hasn't been working out for me.

i need to c.r.e.a.t.e on a regular basis.

so here are a few projects on my pinterest board that are waiting for me...

or this to paint, isn't it cute?

vacation please?

this was the first week of summer vacation.

it always takes me a while to adjust to my new schedule.

it is nice not to have to leave the house super early for school/work

but that means that we {the boys and i} are home all day.

hubby isn't on summer break till the 23rd, wah wah wah

that means i have to keep the boys busy.

as hubby, kindly reminded me as i sat down to blog,

it is my duty to plan our family vacation.

i am not good at planning way in advance, and given hubby's short summer this year

i should get cracking' at it....

oh the procrastination..

why is it so hard to pick a destination?

it must be psychological...i always stall at the thought of flying...

but i love going on vacation to any beachy location.

{am i rhyming?}

i found these on pinterest to hopefully inspire me

mayan riviera, one of may favorite places!

this would be more for a second honeymoon, hmmm, bora bora.

underground rivers at xcaret in the mayan rivers are wonderful and 

so beautiful, i think the boys would love this.

i can already picture myself doing this...

ok, i am ready to plan..wish me luck!

garden dreaming

dreaming today about this dreamy backyard sitting area

about how fun it would be to have had a tepee like this for the boys

 about this cute cottage shed and the hours of fun a girl {or boy} could have in there

about a relaxing space to sit and have a nice cold glass of ice tea.

now back to work to make my garden dreams come true.

crayon monogram art

 

today I worked on these gifts for the boys teachers.

I had pinned them on pinterest a while back.

 

 

I started with a template that I found here. There is a template for every letter.

I just changed the font for the name to one to my liking and printed it out on plain paper.

I bought the frames at Ikea {love that place}.

 

 

I started by cutting the crayons.  I scored each crayon with a blade or exacto knife and broke the pieces. Next, I placed the crayons on the the template. I cut all the crayons first before I glued them.

 

 

Once all the crayons were cut and dry fitted {for lack of a better word}, I printed the monogram on cardstock and then hot glued each piece and framed it.

 

super easy, super cute!

 

 

I printed this one on a textured piece of cardstock. i really liked the contrast and colors.

I want one for myself now.

 

 

I was really happy with how they turned out.

I think their teachers will really like them.
