it's the little things

 i finally was able to get to styling {fixing, cleaning, organizing, de-cluttering} my bookcases.

i don't know what it was but every time i tried, i just wasn't feelin it.

 after putting away all the christmas decorations hubby and i cleared the shelves.

this gave us a clean slate to start with.

he set up my small camera collection that i plan on adding to.

i am slowly working on adding more vintage items to my decor.

 

i also found this adorable flying piggie at home goods, it was black but hubby spray painted it for me.

i love it,  it reminds me to dream big. i have always liked pigs, and animals for that matter.

as you can see evidence of that with the menagerie of animals in my bookcases and around the house.

 

this new kitchen towel just makes me happy.

it is colorful and goes perfect in my kitchen.

i just enjoy sprucing up my little home.

there is something about january that makes you want to clean and start fresh.

it's the promise of a new beginning, a new opportunity to make your mark,

to set things right, to start anew.

i am looking forward to this new year.

i am looking forward to the amazing things god has in store.

things one can't even imagine but he has them all planned out for us

ready to pour his amazing and never ending love on us.

a new skirt

i have slowly been finishing up on some projects around the house.

 i finished the skirt i made for the master bath sink cabinet.

 originally i wanted an open shelve underneath

and i had the cabinet custom made for our master bath. 

after living with it for six years it left me with little space for storage.

 i was never happy seeing all the bathroom stuff underneath

and in the baskets and though open cabinets look amazing in the pottery barn catalogs,

it does not work for a family bathroom with lots of stuff.

i added a skirt like the one i had made for the laundry room sink.

now all my stuff is hidden. i plan on doing a bit of de-cluttering, purging, and organizing of stuff.

it's long been over due. 

since the room was nice and clean i took some pictures to share.

these are letters i made for our wedding that hubby framed for me.

new cabinet

i know i talked a while ago about posting pictures of the new cabinet hubby made for the boys' bath.

well, all the stars and moon aligned.

 {and i was able to keep the room clean long enough to take a decent picture, 

you know living with three boys doesn't make it easy}

cabinet is painted with Annie Sloan chalk paint in duck egg.

10 things i love

since tomorrow is valentine's day

 i thought it would be appropriate to blog about things that i love

this is pretty random and not in any order

1. my hubby

{yes, i know that is a given}

he is a family man. he loves us and is a great daddy.

he puts his family first, is a hard worker

he is a great role model for our boys.

2. my home

our home has been a labor of love. hubby has done most of the work himself.

we have been through 3 major renovations adding almost 1000 square feet to our little house.

the last of those being the kitchen remodel.

as for now, the lord has said we are to stay, which has blessed me with the opportunity to work part-time.

i have more than i ever dreamed of having, the lord is good!

3. my boys

i am blessed to be called their mother.

new print

i felt crafty this afternoon and i worked on this print

it was something that came to me while i was doing my bible reading
psalm 139:14

i jotted it down in my idea notebook.

as you may remember from this post, i had purchased the frame from home goods.

i was looking for a print for the boys bath.

i really liked the color of the frame. it looks perfect.

 the boys can read it while they are brushing their teeth

and be encouraged!

i think i will make one for my classroom too.

i am slowly working to update the boys bath.

hubby is making a new cabinet and i am looking for a more colorful shower curtain

that is reasonably priced.

wish me luck, some i have seen are super expensive.

good doggy and other pictures

i have been playing with my camera today.

i have an assignment to play with depth of field and aperture.

the more i shoot the more i realize i have so much to learn yet.

i am finding it is a process and practice really does make perfect

or in my case almost, not quite yet perfect.

it is a small room which makes it quite difficult to take pictures of.

ok so i don't have a picture yet in this frame, i wasn't going to show it but i just love the color on the frame.

this was another one of my home good goodies. i want to either purchase a print or make one.

i am trying to incorporate more color.

i guess i am a little impatient about these things.

evolution of a laundry room

welcome to our new {old} laundry room

our laundry room is located outside our house in a separate room

kinda like a bonus room, a very spacious one.

this is what the room looked like before if you remember from this post

 this is how it looks like now

 our laundry room is finally complete, at least the laundry side of this room.

it is a complete change from this yucky flooring

{kinda embarrassed to show this picture, but gotta keep it real}

 

new clean floors are soo nice

 hello new paint, new washer and dryer, and check out that new light fixture that hubby

fitted with a spray painted medallion to make it beefier, it was a little wimpy.

 new cabinet hubby made, a sink and faucet from ikea were perfect for this utility sink.

detergent looks a lot prettier in a glass container.

my nanita gave me the little washboard.

hubby also made this shelf to cover pipes that were protruding from the wall.

i painted it and gave it a light sanding to look a bit distressed.

i made curtains for the utility sink to hide all the laundry necessities that are not so pretty.

i really liked the way the light fixture looks in this room.

eventually, on the other side of the room, i want to make it my sewing/craft area.
i bought an old desk at the goodwill that i want to refiinsh and paint to add.

 for now i have beautiful clean place where i can air my dirty laundry.
